How do Facet Pro estimates work?

The short answerFrom one photo of the front of your house: we find the windows, doors, walls, roofline and roof, size them against your front door, and price what you choose. Windows and doors use what those jobs actually sell for; walls, roof and roofline use UK material and labour rates with scaffolding, waste and VAT. The result is a planning estimate shown as a range — an installer confirms the final price after a survey.

Where each part of the price comes from

WorkHow it is priced
Windows and doorsWhat these jobs actually sell for, from 24 years of selling them, checked against current UK prices
Cladding and renderMaterial and the labour to fit it, per square metre of wall
RoofTiles or slate plus fitting, sized from your roof area
Fascias, soffits and gutteringMaterials and labour by the metre of roofline
ScaffoldingIncluded from the start, counted once for the whole job
WasteAn allowance for offcuts and breakages
VAT20%, shown separately

How a photo gives us the sizes

A standard UK front door is very close to 1.98 m tall and appears in almost every photo of a British home, so it gives us the scale of everything around it — no tape measure, no visit. Where the photo cannot show enough, you can check or correct the count before your estimate is worked out.

A photo of the front shows the front. For the back and sides you can add a second photo or just tell us how many windows there are.

Why the estimate is a range

Different companies charge different prices for the same job. The lower figure is what a keen installer typically charges; the higher figure is what others charge for the same work. Two neighbours on the same street can be quoted very different amounts for the same windows, which is why a starting figure before anyone visits is useful.

What can still change the final price

A photograph cannot show everything. The condition of the property, access, hidden or unexpected work, the final measurements and your final product specification are all confirmed by the installer on survey. That is why Facet Pro gives a planning estimate, not a quotation.

Planning estimate or quotation?

Every figure on this page is a planning estimate: what a job like this typically costs, for budgeting and for judging the quotes you get. It is not a quotation. A quotation comes from an installer after a survey, when the exact sizes, specification and condition of your house are known.

Facet Pro narrows the estimate to your own house from a photograph of the front — the windows it can see, the wall it can measure against your front door — and says which parts are measured and which are estimated for your house type. Your installer confirms the figure on survey.

Common questions

Is a Facet Pro estimate a quote?

No. It is a planning estimate to help you budget. An installer confirms the final specification and price after surveying the property.

How accurate is the estimate?

It is a realistic planning range, not a guaranteed final price. It is based on what we can see in your photo and the options you choose. We record how our estimates compare with installers’ quotes so we can keep improving them.

Do I need to measure anything?

No. We size your house from the photo, using your front door for scale.

Why do quotes for the same job vary so much?

Mostly because of which company quotes. The same work to the same specification can settle at very different prices with different installers, which is why the estimate is shown as a range.

Facet Pro is in early access. We are starting to check how we measure wall area from a photograph against surveyed properties, so treat wall and roof figures as indicative and window figures as a guide.

Your house isn’t average.

See this project on your own home and get a planning estimate. Every figure above is a typical house. Start with one photograph of the front and we will find your windows, doors, roof and walls, estimate your wall area, and price your own elevation.
