Aluminium or uPVC
Aluminium costs about 25% more than uPVC for the same window. Its frames are slimmer for the same strength, which suits large glazed areas and a modern look; uPVC is the lower-cost frame and what most UK homes have.
Neither is the right answer for every house — it comes down to budget, the look you want and the size of the glass.
Colours and finishes
Aluminium is powder-coated, and on this site the colour is part of the aluminium price: anthracite, black, grey or white cost the same. On uPVC a non-white finish is an extra.
What affects the installation cost
The same things as any window: how many, how big, how many open, the style, and access to upstairs windows. Structural work around a widened opening is priced separately.

What is included in these prices
Supplying and fitting the new windows, taking out and taking away the old ones, and sealing and making good around each new frame. VAT is in every figure.
Access for upstairs windows is included where the estimate needs it (£936 for a tower), and small jobs carry a minimum charge of £1,140. Not included: new sills or lintels where the old ones have failed, internal decorating, and anything structural.
